Developing Empathy: Seeing the Other Person’s Point of View

I chose a card to post on FB this morning and it was a reminder to see the other person’s point of view. This is an important skill to have in many aspects of life, whether it’s in personal relationships, social interactions, or professional settings.

Seeing things from another person’s perspective can help you to better understand their thoughts, feelings, and motivations. It can also help to build empathy, improve communication, and resolve conflicts.

To see another person’s point of view, you can start by actively listening to them and trying to understand their perspective without judgment or interruption. You can also ask questions to clarify their thoughts and feelings, and try to put yourself in their shoes to better understand where they are coming from.

Remember that seeing another person’s point of view does not mean that you have to agree with them or compromise your own beliefs and values. It simply means that you are open. This week I will make every effort to be an active listener. To truly hear what emotions others are trying to verbalize. Want to join me?
